Gowa, September 25, 2026 – The Department of Marine Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University continues to strengthen the quality of learning and the international academic atmosphere through the implementation of English Classes in several courses, bringing in academics from abroad as part of the student learning process.

This program is conducted in the Engineering Mechanics II and Marine Pollution and Safety courses. Instruction uses English as the medium of teaching, so that students not only strengthen their technical competencies but also become accustomed to understanding academic terminology and communicating in an international learning environment.

In the Engineering Mechanics II course, students have the opportunity to attend lectures with Associate Professor Weijun Xu from Harbin Engineering University, China. The learning activities are carried out interactively through a combination of face-to-face and online sessions. The presence of international academics provides students with a broader learning experience in understanding Engineering Mechanics concepts, which are one of the critical foundations in Marine Engineering.

Meanwhile, in the Marine Pollution and Safety course, students attend lectures with Dr. Shamila Binti Azman, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Water and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). In these lectures, students gain insights into a variety of aquatic environmental issues, including water quality monitoring, marine pollution, microplastic pollution, and ecotoxicology.

The involvement of international academics in these two courses serves as a means for students to gain a global perspective on marine engineering and environmental issues. English-language instruction also encourages students to become more accustomed to reading international literature, understanding technical standards and terminology, and communicating within global academic and professional contexts.

The implementation of English Classes is part of the Hasanuddin University Marine Engineering Department's efforts to support the internationalization of education, improve the quality of learning, and expand academic networks with institutions and academics from various countries.

Through this program, students are expected to become increasingly prepared to participate in international academic activities, collaborative research, student mobility, scientific publication, and to face the increasingly integrated global marine industry.

Going forward, the Hasanuddin University Marine Engineering Department will continue to promote the development of international learning by increasing the number of english classes, guest lecture, visiting lecturer, and international academic collaboration in various courses.
