The Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University, conducted an international academic visit to the Department of Architecture, Institut National des Sciences Appliquées (INSA) Strasbourg, France, from 4 to 15 November 2025. The visit was carried out under the International Partnership Network Development and Enhancement Program (P2MJKI) 2025, aiming to strengthen global academic collaboration and enhance Hasanuddin University’s contribution to the World Class University (WCU) agenda.
The delegation was led by Ir. Abdul Mufti Radja, ST., MT., Ph.D, a faculty member of the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University. During the visit, a series of academic and institutional activities were conducted, including campus tours, meetings with academic leaders, and in-depth discussions on future collaboration.
A key highlight of the visit was a formal meeting with Professor Florence Rudolf, Director of INSA Strasbourg, where both parties discussed strategic opportunities for joint research, academic peer collaboration, guest lectures, and student exchange programs, particularly at the doctoral level. Special attention was given to the potential development of collaborative research on Toraja vernacular architecture, emphasizing cultural heritage, communal space, and sustainable architectural values.
The visit also included tours of INSA Strasbourg’s academic facilities, such as student spaces, classrooms, libraries, and communal areas, providing valuable insights into the institution’s academic environment and learning culture. Informal discussions continued in a more relaxed setting, fostering closer academic ties and mutual understanding between both institutions.
As a concrete outcome, both parties expressed commitment to initiating joint research and international publications, as well as involving INSA Strasbourg academics as guest speakers and keynote speakers at future international conferences, including the Asian Vernacular Architecture Network (AVAN) Conference 2026, to be hosted by Hasanuddin University.
This academic visit represents a strategic step in expanding the global network of the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University, while reinforcing its commitment to international collaboration, cultural research, and academic excellence.
