Delegates from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and academics and students from the Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) arrived in Makassar for the Makassar Engineering Odyssey 2025. Activities are designed to enhance academic collaboration and expand technological and cultural perspectives during the event, which takes place from May 4 to 11, 2025.
Following a dinner hosted by the Rector of UNHAS, the UTM delegation visited the Gowa and Tamalanrea Campuses, where they engaged in academic sessions, campus visits, and arts and culture classes. The traditional dance class was one of the highlights, as it provided participants with the chance to learn the signature movements of Indonesian culture and sample traditional Makassarese cuisine.
The agenda encompassed a variety of scientific discussions on civil and environmental engineering, as well as visits to research facilities, the Teaching Industry & Techno-Science Park, and the UTM-UNHAS Colloquium session on May 8, 2025, in addition to the academic aspect. The UTM and UNHAS delegates will participate in a friendly badminton match and a city tour of Makassar, which will include the unique experience of sailing on a Phinisi.
The UTM delegation will also visit the UNHAS Faculty of Engineering's Maker Innovation Space as part of their academic exploration. This innovation center is dedicated to showcasing a variety of student research and creative projects. It is anticipated that the visit will offer novel perspectives on Indonesia's technological and engineering developments and foster partnerships for innovation development. In addition, they will also visit the Cognitive Intelligence and Robotics Centre for Learning and Exploration (CIRCLE) Research Laboratory, which is one of the places to develop robotics research and technology. This visit aims to introduce various innovations in the field of automation and artificial intelligence and open up opportunities for research cooperation between UTM and UNHAS.
The UTM-UNHAS Colloquium session on May 8, 2025, is the primary academic agenda of the visit. This session involves a variety of scientific discussions on civil and environmental engineering. The colloquium will also involve students from the UNHAS Department of Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering, who will have the opportunity to present their research, exchange ideas, and engage in discussions with the UTM delegates. It is anticipated that the session will offer a platform for students and academics from both universities to broaden their academic networks and establish opportunities for research collaboration.
This event is a significant catalyst for the exchange of knowledge and the enhancement of international cooperation between the two universities. It also offers participants a comprehensive comprehension of the culture and technological innovation in Makassar. Makassar Engineering Odyssey 2025 is anticipated to establish a foundation for future collaboration in the academic and research sectors through the spirit of camaraderie and collaboration.
