The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University (Unhas), has officially sent off five students to participate in an international internship program in Japan for six months.

These five students will undertake industrial practice at two Japanese manufacturing companies. Three students are placed at TAINEXAS Co., Ltd., while the other two will participate in the internship program at Shinei Tekko Co., Ltd.

The Head of the Unhas Mechanical Engineering Department, Muhammad Syahid, stated that the program is part of the faculty’s commitment to improving graduates’ quality through hands-on work experience in an international industrial environment.

According to him, the success of students securing placements in companies in Japan is a source of pride as well as an opportunity to forge broader collaborations between universities and the global industrial sector.

“This internship program lasts for six months. We hope students can take advantage of this opportunity to deepen their technical competence, build a professional work ethic, and understand the industrial work culture in Japan. This experience will be extremely valuable when they return and enter the workforce,” said Muhammad Syahid, Monday (July 13, 2026).

He explained that the international internship program is aimed not only at enhancing students’ technical abilities but also at shaping the professional character required in the global workforce.

While in Japan, participants are expected to develop adaptability, cross-cultural communication, discipline, and professionalism in line with international industry standards.

The program is also part of the Unhas Mechanical Engineering Department’s strategy to prepare graduates who are globally competitive and able to compete in the international job market.

By gaining hands-on experience working at Japanese manufacturing companies, students are expected to apply the knowledge acquired during their studies while also understanding modern industrial practices that emphasize efficiency, innovation, and quality.

In addition to broadening perspectives and competencies, these students are also expected to serve as ambassadors for Hasanuddin University, bringing credit to their alma mater in international industrial circles.

The Unhas Mechanical Engineering Department is optimistic that this experience will strengthen the quality of its graduates and increase opportunities for academic and industrial collaboration with various overseas companies in the future.
