The Department of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Hasanuddin conducted an academic trip visit to The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), a globally recognized university currently ranked 44th in the world. This visit is part of Universitas Hasanuddin’s internationalization strategy aimed at strengthening the quality of education, research, and global academic collaboration.

The delegation consisted of representatives of the leadership of the Faculty of Engineering, the Head and management of the Department of Industrial Engineering, faculty members, and administrative staff. The participation of academic leaders and staff reflects the institution’s strong commitment to academic transformation and global competitiveness. The academic trip focused on exploring potential international collaborations in the field of education, including research partnerships, faculty and student exchange programs, and the development of internationally oriented curricula. In addition, the delegation conducted benchmarking of HKUST’s laboratory facilities and equipment, particularly those relevant to the advancement of Industrial Engineering education and research.

The benchmarking outcomes are expected to serve as strategic references for the development of an Industry 5.0 Laboratory within the Department of Industrial Engineering, Universitas Hasanuddin. This laboratory is envisioned to support the integration of intelligent technologies, human–machine collaboration, sustainability, and human-centered innovation in addressing future industrial challenges. This academic visit is anticipated to serve as a foundation for sustainable international collaboration between Universitas Hasanuddin and HKUST, while further strengthening the global contribution of the Department of Industrial Engineering in education and research.
