On May 31, 2025, the Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas) engaged in a collaborative research project with the University of Kitakyushu in Japan, facilitated by the Department of Environmental Engineering. This initiative was conducted under the auspices of a Cooperation Agreement signed by both institutions, with the objective of enhancing international research networks and fostering academic collaboration.

The collaboration is centered on the project entitled "Decarbonization of Solid Waste Management on Small Islands around Makassar City, Indonesia." This research is of significant relevance to contemporary global challenges, as it addresses environmental sustainability and proposes innovative waste management solutions for small island communities.

The scope of collaboration encompasses the exchange of faculty members and students, joint field research and data analysis, as well as the sharing of academic papers and the organization of joint conferences. These activities are intended to advance scientific knowledge and foster stronger academic partnerships between Unhas and the University of Kitakyushu.

This collaboration represents a significant milestone in Unhas's commitment to advancing sustainable development research and enhancing its role in addressing pressing environmental issues through meaningful international partnerships.
