The Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Hasanuddin, successfully organized an IEEE Distinguished Guest Lecture titled “The Machine Stops: A Gentle Introduction to Fault-Tolerant Computing” on December 3rd, 2025. The lecture was held online via Zoom and attracted participants from academic and professional communities with strong interests in computer architecture and reliable computing systems.
The session featured Prof. Dr. Behrooz Parhami from the University of California at Santa Barbara, USA, as the guest speaker, with Prof. Dr. Ing. Faizal Arya Samman from Universitas Hasanuddin serving as the lecture chair. During the lecture, Prof. Parhami shared insightful perspectives on the evolution of computer architecture over eight decades, highlighting fundamental concepts and practical approaches in designing fault-tolerant computing systems.
Organized in collaboration with IEEE, FORTE, and the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CAS), the event attracted participants from diverse academic backgrounds and sparked active discussion on system reliability and innovation. This guest lecture not only enriched academic understanding but also reinforced Universitas Hasanuddin’s commitment to international collaboration and the advancement of cutting-edge research and education in electrical and computer engineering.
