The Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas) proudly hosted the International Conference on Research in Engineering and Science Technology (IC-REST) 2025 on August 27, 2025, at the Gowa Campus. Under the compelling theme “Smart Engineering Innovations for Mitigating Disruption toward Global Sustainability,” the conference highlighted the significant need to align technological advancements with the principles of sustainable development in an era marked by rapid global change.

The ceremony began at 08:30 WITA with an opening speech by IC-REST 2025 Chairman Dr. Sc. Muhammad Sulhuzair Burhanuddin, S.T., M.T., who emphasized the vital role of interdisciplinary innovation in tackling global sustainability challenges. Following the Chairman’s address, the conference was officially declared open by Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Muhammad Isran Ramli, S.T., M.T., IPM., AER., Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Unhas. In his remarks, the Dean reaffirmed IC-REST’s dual mission: not only as a prestigious platform for disseminating high-quality research but also as a catalyst for interdisciplinary and international collaboration.

The conference was significantly enriched by the contributions of distinguished speakers, including Dr. Nguyen Manh Dung from Vietnam National University, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Shubadin bin Mat from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Assoc. Prof. Yasutaka Sagawa from Kyushu University, Japan, Dr. Abang M.S. Nugraha from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and Dr. Eng. Achmad Yasir Baeda, S.T., M.T. from Universitas Hasanuddin.

Their insights covered critical areas within engineering and science, fostering valuable discussions among participants. In his remarks, Prof. Isran emphasized the significance of IC-REST as a platform for dialogue, stating, “This event is a space for collaboration across disciplines and for building global networks. We expect presenters not only to share their research but also to engage in discussions that can generate new, impactful ideas.”

All accepted papers will be published in reputable, internationally indexed proceedings, including Scopus, Inspec, and WoS, thereby ensuring extensive academic visibility and impact. This initiative underscores the Faculty of Engineering’s dedication to advancing global knowledge exchange and fostering innovations that address pressing global challenges.

With the participation of international experts, scholars, and practitioners, IC-REST 2025 reaffirmed Unhas’ position as a dynamic academic hub in Southeast Asia. The conference is anticipated to pave the way for groundbreaking ideas and sustainable solutions that contribute to building a resilient future for all.
