The Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University (FT-UH) strengthens its commitment to the internationalization of education and research development through the implementation of the Student Internship Program Saga University, Japan. This program brings together undergraduate and master's students from Saga University with the academic community of the Faculty of Engineering, Unhas, in a series of academic activities emphasizing knowledge exchange, technological innovation, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and the strengthening of international higher education networks.

The series of activities began with a welcoming ceremony for Saga University students by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University, Prof. Dr.Eng. Ir. Muhammad Isran Ramli, ST., MT., IPM., AER., on Monday, 24 August 2026, held at the Dean Hall FT-UH. At the event, the FTUH Dean was accompanied by the Vice Deans and Prof. Dr.Eng. Ir. Tri Harianto, ST., MT., IPU., AER.

The Saga University delegation consisted of undergraduate and master's students from the fields of Civil Engineering & Architecture, Computer Science & Information Technology, and Advanced Material Chemistry, accompanied by Prof. Mishima Yuichiro from Saga University.

In his remarks, the FT-UH Dean expressed appreciation for the presence of the Saga University delegation, emphasizing that the event marked an important moment to strengthen academic ties between Hasanuddin University and Saga University, Japan.

According to the FT-UH Dean, international collaboration is not only understood as a student exchange but also as a space to build an open academic culture, bring together various scientific perspectives, and foster the creation of innovations that can address real problems in society.

“The presence of students and academics from Saga University is an opportunity for us to learn from each other, exchange experiences, and build stronger academic networks. We hope this program will be the beginning of broader collaboration, particularly in education, research, and innovation development,” said Prof. Isran Ramli.

The Dean also stressed the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in facing today's development challenges. The advancement of digital technology, artificial intelligence, advanced materials, water resource management, and sustainable development requires synergy among various scientific fields. Therefore, the interaction among students from diverse disciplines is expected to broaden perspectives and generate more innovative ideas.

The next program in the series was the Special Lecture Session held on Thursday, 27 August 2026, on the 1st Floor of the CSA Building, Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University. This event featured three main sessions with FT-UH and Saga University academics as speakers.

The first session featured Dr. Eng. Lukmanul Hakim Arma, S.T., M.T., delivering material in the Advanced Material Course. This session provided insights on developments in advanced materials and their potential to support technological innovation and more efficient and sustainable engineering solutions.

In the second session, Prof. Dr. Ir. Indrabayu, ST., MT., M.Bus.Sys., IPM., ASEAN.Eng. presented on the Computer Science and Information Technology Course, focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and multimedia processing. This discussion is particularly relevant to the progress of digital transformation, which increasingly affects various fields, including education, industry, engineering, and public services.

The use of AI and multimedia processing opens new opportunities in the development of intelligent systems, data analysis, automation, and the advancement of various technological applications. The inclusion of this material is aimed at encouraging students not only to be users of technology but also to develop innovative digital solutions that are adaptive to future needs.

Meanwhile, the third session featured Prof. Mishima Yuichiro from the Department of Civil Engineering & Architecture, Faculty of Science Engineering, Saga University, with a research presentation titled “Smart Water Management for Green and Sustainable Buildings: From Water Cycle to Sustainable Cities.”

This topic addressed strategic issues regarding intelligent water management in support of the creation of green buildings and sustainable cities. The approach from the water cycle to the urban scale highlights the importance of integrating technology, engineering, and resource governance in facing environmental challenges and future development needs.

The event also involved students from four departments within the Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University: the Department of Civil Engineering, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Department of Informatics Engineering, and the Department of Environmental Engineering. This cross-departmental involvement further strengthens the program's character as a forum for interdisciplinary learning and exchange of ideas that transcend disciplinary boundaries.

Through the Student Internship Program Saga University, Japan, FT-UH not only provides opportunities for students to gain international academic experience but also strengthens the position of the Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University, as a higher education institution actively building global collaborations and being responsive to technological developments as well as the challenges of sustainable development.

This program is expected to serve as a foundation for the development of broader cooperation between Hasanuddin University and Saga University, in education, research, student exchange, and innovation development. By bringing together young people from different disciplines and countries, this activity is expected to foster a sustainable academic network and new ideas, which in the end will provide real contributions to society and the development of the future.
